201 Stainless steel plate

201 is an economical type of stainless steel. It excels in terms of cost-effectiveness and decorative properties, but is weak in rust resistance. It is suitable for indoor dry environments and is the preferred choice for cost reduction when replacing 304.

Plate: 6 mm and above
Thicker flat product, typically hot rolled for heavier-gauge fabrication. Confirm No.1 finish, cutting, and tolerance requirements.

Product Details

201 stainless steel belongs to the 200 series chromium-manganese austenitic stainless steel, with the national standard designation of 12Cr17Mn6Ni5N, commonly known as "low-nickel stainless steel".

I. Common Applications

Decoration: elevator plates, door frames, handrails, skirting boards, curtain walls.

Appliances: washing machine shells, microwave oven panels, refrigerator back plates.

Daily items: shelves, tableware, non-water-contact parts of kitchen and bathroom, advertising signs.

II. Composition and Characteristics

Composition: Cr ≈ 16–18%, Mn ≈ 5.5–7.5%, Ni ≈ 1–1.5%, manganese and nitrogen replace nickel, with a cost much lower than 304.

Advantages: low price (about 30% cheaper than 304), high strength and hardness, easy to process (can be bent, stamped, and polished), bright surface.

Disadvantages: poor corrosion resistance, only suitable for dry, indoor, and weakly corrosive environments; prone to rust in humid, coastal or acid-base environments.
