201 Stainless steel sheet

201 stainless steel is an economical type of stainless steel, excelling in terms of cost-effectiveness and decorative properties, but lacking in rust resistance. It is suitable for indoor dry environments and is the preferred choice for reducing costs compared to 304 stainless steel.

Sheet: 0.3–5 mm
Thin-gauge, typically cold rolled. Common finish discussions include 2B, BA, and No.4.

Product Details

201 Stainless steel belongs to the 200 series chromium-manganese austenitic stainless steel, with the national standard designation of 12Cr17Mn6Ni5N, commonly known as "low-nickel stainless steel".

I. Composition and Characteristics

Composition: Cr ≈ 16–18%, Mn ≈ 5.5–7.5%, Ni ≈ 1–1.5%, manganese and nitrogen replace nickel, and the cost is much lower than 304.

Advantages: Low price (about 30% cheaper than 304), high strength and hardness, easy to process (can be bent, stamped, and polished), bright surface.

Disadvantages: General corrosion resistance, only suitable for dry, indoor, and weakly corrosive environments; prone to rust in humid, coastal or acid-base environments.

II. Common Applications

Decoration: Elevator plates, door frames, handrails, skirting boards, curtain walls.

Appliances: Washing machine shells, microwave oven panels, refrigerator back plates.

Daily necessities: Shelves, tableware, non-water-contact parts of kitchen and bathroom, advertising signs.

III. Specification Reference

Thickness: 0.3–5mm

Panel size: 1000×2000mm, 1219×2438mm, etc., can be cut to standard lengths.
